FAQ
Barefoot Shoes — Your Questions Answered
New to barefoot shoes? Here are the questions we get most from people discovering barefoot footwear for the first time.
What exactly are barefoot shoes?
Barefoot shoes are designed to let your feet move the way nature intended. They have three features that set them apart from conventional shoes:
- Wide toe box — gives your toes room to splay naturally, improving balance and stability
- Zero-drop sole — heel and toe sit at the same height, encouraging a natural upright posture
- Thin, flexible sole — lets your feet sense the ground and strengthen naturally over time
The result is a shoe that works with your foot's natural biomechanics, not against them.
Will they hurt at first?
They will feel different — and that's completely normal. If you've spent years in conventional shoes with elevated heels and rigid soles, your feet and calves need some time to adapt. Most people go through a 2–4 week transition where they start wearing barefoot shoes for a few hours a day and gradually increase.
The good news: the vast majority of our customers say that after the first two weeks, they can't imagine going back. The adjustment is short — the benefits are lasting.
How do I choose the right size?
Barefoot shoes fit differently than conventional shoes. The most important thing: your longest toe should have a few millimetres of space at the front, and no toe should press against the sides. We recommend measuring your foot length (heel to longest toe) and comparing it to the size chart on each product page. When in doubt, go half a size up — a slightly larger barefoot shoe is always better than one that's too tight.

Are barefoot shoes good for flat feet or plantar fasciitis?
Many people with flat feet and plantar fasciitis find significant relief after transitioning to barefoot shoes. The thin sole and zero-drop design gradually strengthen the muscles of the foot, which can address root causes rather than masking them with arch support. That said, everyone's feet are different — if you have a medical condition, we recommend a slow transition and consulting a physiotherapist or podiatrist if you have any concerns.
How long do barefoot shoes last?
With regular use and proper care, our barefoot shoes typically last 1–2 years of daily wear. The flexible soles and quality materials are built for durability even in demanding conditions like hiking and trail running.
Who are barefoot shoes NOT for?
We believe in being honest: barefoot shoes aren't ideal for everyone. If you currently need significant ankle support due to an injury, or if your doctor has prescribed custom orthotics for a specific condition, barefoot shoes may not be the right choice right now. Always listen to your body — and feel free to contact us if you're unsure whether our shoes are right for your situation.
